Buddhist Paharpur Vihara


According to the Bengali word list, the name Paharpur (Pahar = hill, pur = locality) suggests that a section of hill. it's a village in Badalgachi Upazila of Naogaon District. the closest railroad terminal of Jamalganj that lies on the Khulna-Parvatipur rail area and is connected by Paharpur by a 5km long brick metalled bye-way. Paharpur also can be reached from its nearest airdrome, Sayedpur, following a metalled road via Joypurhat. The village contains the ruins of a Buddhist cloister that was known as Somapura Mahavihara (the nice cloister placed within the neck of the woods of moon) within the ancient Buddhist World. it's currently a World Cultural Heritage (BGD. 292).
